MULTI-DISCPLINARY ASSESSMENTS FOR ASF REFERRALS…

Jigsaw Occupational Therapy, in collaboration with Kaleidoscope Therapies, are able to undertake comprehensive multi-disciplinary Therapeutic Needs Assessments, led by Dr Ursula Mazur. This service is available through all Local Authorities, via the Adoption Support Fund, to offer a comprehensive analysis of the required therapeutic support and aid families in accessing the appropriate support services thereafter.  The service will be multi-dimensional, clear, respectful, evidence-informed and have the child/young person’s, and their families, voice at the core of it’s content.

The assessment will offer quality assurance via:

• gathering information from a range of sources

• ensuring the inclusion of the key people in the child/young person’s life

• using a range of standardised and non-standardised assessment methods, such as questionnaires, observation, individual and family discussions and structured/unstructured play

• summarising the child/young person’s journey, explaining how their current strengths, difficulties and needs relate to their early experiences and their families adoption journey

• providing a clear outline of how the Therapeutic Support Plan relates to the child/young person’s, and their families, needs and strengths

• clearly demonstrate how the Therapeutic Support Plan recommendations relate to key ASF outcomes

• utilising a report framework that ensures consistency whilst allowing for flexibility

The fund was established by the government in 2013 to impart support for adopted children and their families. Through this fund we can combine The Therapeutic Consultants psychotherapeutic services with our Occupational Therapist's expertise in working with children and young people with attachment and trauma disorders to ensure that the most appropriate emotional or psychological support is offered in combination with designing a personalised therapy programme around an individual's needs. All funding should be applied for via your Local Authority, however, we are happy to have initial discussions direct with parents and Special Guardians to provide further information as to the offering available.
